Two Day Seminar: Free Training
Title: Effective Communication Techniques for Sexual Assault First Responders and Investigators
Day One: The first day of training will focus on the needs of the First Responding Officer to an allegation of sexual assault. Emphasis will be placed on victim and witness interviews.
Day Two: The second day of training looks at the communication needs of law enforcement officers who enter a sexual assault case after initial contact.
Details: Topics that will be covered in these two days of training are: Dealing with Angry People and Difficult People; Mediation Techniques; Rapport Building and Rapport Testing; Gender, Age and Relationship Factors Present in Interviews; Methods of Assessing the Interviewee; Active Listening Techniques; Dealing with Diversity and Special Needs; and, Accurately Communicating Empathy.
Note: Officers may attend both training sessions but must register separately for each training session.
Instructor: The course instructor is Dr. Lou Harris, chair of the CJ Department at Faulkner University. He is a retired FBI agent with 11 years of field experience in investigating sexual assault cases and has taught criminal profiling for 12 years. Dr. Harris has been an APOST certified instructor since 1987.
Hours: These classes provide 16 hours of APOST certified instruction.
