Title: Effective Communication Techniques for Sexual Assault First Responders and Investigators
This one day training session will begin with a needs assessment of the participants. Topics that may be covered are introduction to sexual violence, duties of first responding officers, crime scene investigations, listening skills, rapport building with victims and witnesses, congnitive interviewing, dealing with angry people, multicultural interviewing, special needs interviews and managing stress. The purpose of this training approach is to better equip criminal justice professionals with the interviewing tools needed to effectively deal with sexual assault cases.
Instructor: The course instructor is Dr. Lou Harris, chair of the CJ Department at Faulkner University. He is a retired FBI agent with 11 years of field experience in investigating sexual assault cases and has taught criminal profiling for 12 years. Dr. Harris has been an APOST certified instructor since 1987.
Hours: These classes provide 8 hours of APOST certified instruction.
